BIM stands for Building Information Modelling, which is
a digital representation of the physical and functional characteristics of a building.
It is used to create a digital model of a building, which can be used to plan, design, construct, maintain and manage the building throughout its entire life cycle.
A BIM file is a three-dimensional digital model that contains information about every component of a building, from design to management, and serves to facilitate collaboration between professionals in the AEC (architecture, engineering and construction) sector through standardised formats such as IFC, which ensure interoperability and data transfer between different software programmes.
